The Mathematica Link plugin acts like a simple Mathematica front end. It is able to load and evaluate files which are either in Mathematica input format (InputForm) or in Mathematica binary format (DumpSave). Files written by DumpSave conventionally have names that end with .mx whereas Mathematica input text files should have names that end with .mlif to make them loadable by the Mathematica Link plugin.
Evaluation requires a running connection to the Mathematica kernel provided by the MathLink interface.
